Birthday Treat from My Favourite Things (MFT)

On my birthday, 13 April, My Favourite Things (MFT) sent me a gift which is USD$10 off on my order! It is a great gift since I really wanted to buy something from MFT. However, I only manage to decide what to buy when the due date for the gift almost end as my budget is not so permitting.

Die-namics Lollipop Treat
Due to budget constraints, I can only squeeze in one (1) item into the cart as the item I want to buy, Die-namics Lollipop Treat is quite expensive at USD$31.99. Unfortunately, there is no sale for this item during the time of my purchase. :( I do not even have extra budget to buy the matching stamp sets. Hopefully I will have some budget to buy the matching stamp sets in months to come.

The reason I wanted this dies is to make some treats for my kids classmates during their birthday or Children's Day. I think the kids will love it. The dies of those circles can be also used individually. There are lots of great projects that can be made with this dies as you can decorate it to suit the occasions.

I made my order and payment on 11 May 2015. Then, the next day, MFT e-mails that my package is on their way. After almost ten (10) days, finally, the dies is here!

I just hope that I have the time and will to make those projects for my kids!

Thank You (Mathematics) Teacher

Thank You (Mathematics) Teacher
Make another two cards for my kids' Teacher's Day but still unable to fully utilize the 'one sketch two cards' idea.

Fusion Card Challenge - French Twist
Remarkably, I got these cards inspirations from the same Fusion Card Challenge - French Twist! This time I use both the sketch and photo whereby I follow the color shades from the photo. For the sketch, I rotate it clockwise.

Close-up: Mathematics related backgrounds
As this card is meant for Mathematics teachers, I created two (2) background using numbers on a yellow card stock and calculators on a white card stock. The colors are coordinate back to the photo. Then, these backgrounds are trimmed according to size and attached onto a card base as in sketch. I alternate the background between the cards so that I have two (2) similar cards. As the backgrounds are a bit too bold, I tone it down by layering a piece of vellum on top of the backgrounds.

Close-up: Stamped and die cut sentiment
Two (2) silver mini doily and white circles are die cut. The sentiment is stamped onto the white circle which later attached onto the silver mini doily. The mini doily is then attached onto the card base as in the sketch. The access mini doily is trimmed away accordingly.

The 'teacher' wording is die cut using heavy pink card stock and attach onto the cards base under the mini doily.

The card is finished off by adding some faux stitching to the sentiment half circle.

Dimension : 11.43cm x 8.89cm or 4.5" x 3.5"
Type : Horizontal fold

You're A Super Teacher

You're A Super Teacher
Made another card for my kids' Teacher's Day. However, this time, I am unable to utilize 'one sketch two cards' idea fully due to the image direction. Somehow, I made two (2) similar cards by rotating the sentiment placement to save my time and efforts.

Fusion Card Challenge - French Twist
This time, I play with Fusion Card Challenge - French Twist sketch as shown above. I did not use the photo as I have no idea how to relate photo into Teacher's Day related.

First, a piece of yellow card stock is embossed with swiss dots pattern and attached to the top and bottom of the cards base as in the sketch.

Close-up: Stamped and die cut sentiment
Below and above the embossed strip, the sentiment is stampedThe 'teacher' wording is die cut few times using yellow and blue card stocks which later stacked up blue against yellow off alignment a bit. The wordings are later attached onto the cards base under the stamped sentiment to complete the sentence of 'You're A Super Teacher'.

Close-up: Cute super-owl
The cute super-owl image is colored using Copic markers and die cut using the matching dies. It is attached onto the card base as in in sketch using foam tape.

Dimension : 11.43cm x 8.89cm or 4.5" x 3.5"
Type : Horizontal fold

Thanks So Much Teacher

Thanks so Much Teacher
Another two cards for my kids' Teacher's Day using 'one sketch two cards' idea!

CAS(E) This Sketch #122
This time, I play with CAS(E) This Sketch #122 as shown above. The sketch is similar to the previous cards I made here whereby one of the card will follow the original sketch (as shown above) while another card, it will be rotated clockwise 180 degree. I like to call it 'upside down cards'. *grin*

Close-up: Sentiment on the top left (upside)
On the fishtail banner die cuts, the sentiment is stamp. Another small fishtail banner die cuts are attached to the sentiment fishtail banners as in sketch before attaching them onto the cards base as in sketch.

Close-up: Sentiment on the top right (downside)
The flowers and leaves are stamped on a white card stock and colored using Copic markers. They are trimmed accordingly. The leaves are attached onto the banners following by the flowers using foam tape as in sketch.

The cards are finished off by rounding the four corners.

Dimension : 11.43cm x 8.89cm or 4.5" x 3.5"
Type : Vertical fold

You Rule!

You Rule!
Continuing on my kids' Teacher's Day cards and I managed another 'one sketch two cards' idea! Phew~

Sketch Saturday Week #360
This time, I play with Sketch Saturday Week #360 as shown above in which I rotated the sketch clockwise and counter clockwise. I am inspired by Less is More - Week 223 - One Layer Week - Water which link me to play with Lawnscaping Challenge 105 - Watercolors again due to the clue word, water. :P

Close-up: Embossed Rulers
First, the rulers are stamped on the top and bottom of two (2) watercolor cards base and the sentiment is stamped above and below the rulers as in sketch. Then, the images are heat emboss using with white embossing powder.

Close-up: Embossed sentiment
Three distress inks are applied onto the watercolor cards base and spray with water to create the watercolor effect.

It is that simple and I managed another two (2) gorgeous cards using one sketch! I hope I can continue this 'one sketch two cards' idea so that I can finish the cards I need to make for my kids' teachers.

Thanks Teacher - One Sketch Two Cards

Thanks Teacher
Teacher's Day is coming soon and this year, I have to put extra efforts in making Teacher's Day cards as my son has started schooling (kindergarten) this year. Thus, more teachers to thanks and appreciate.

Retrosketches #163
Due to the reason above, I have come up with an idea which is using a sketch at least two (2) ways to make two (2) cards using the same materials or techniques. By this, I hope I can make more cards in lesser time. With that idea in mind, I come across Retrosketches #163 (as shown above) which is perfect to materialize my idea! One of the card will follow the original sketch (as shown above) while another card, it will be rotated clockwise 180 degree.

Close-up: The watercolor background created using stencil, distress ink and water technique
I would like to play along this week Lawnscaping Challenge 105 - Watercolors as well. I also itching to play with my only stencil that bought some time ago. Thus, I try Jennifer McGuire's stencil, distress ink and water technique for my card background. It turned out that the stencil patterns are not really vibrant maybe due to the distress ink colors that I choose or I am not mastering the technique enough yet. However, I do like the soft patterns as it feels mysterious.

Next, while waiting the watercolor paper to dry up, two (2) fishtail banners are die cut and stamped with 'Thanks' sentiment. The 'teacher' wording is die cut few times using different color card stocks. The die cut 'teacher' wordings are later stacked up against contrast colors off alignment a bit. The wordings are later attached onto the fishtail banners.
Close-up: Sentiment
Some twines are secured using brad into the fishtail banners' hole to create shatter lookalike. The watercolor paper is trimmed according to size and attached onto the card base as in sketch, both original and rotated. Then, the fishtail sentiment banner is attached onto the card using foam tape as in sketch, both original and rotated.

There they are, two (2) gorgeous cards using one sketch! *proud look* The idea is working and I hope to utilize this idea more. *wink*
